January:

  • Inspect and clean gutters and downspouts to remove any debris or blockages.
  • Test smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors; replace batteries if needed.
  • Check for leaks in plumbing fixtures, especially in areas prone to freezing temperatures.
  • Service your heating system; clean or replace filters as necessary.

February:

  • Inspect windows and doors for drafts; repair or replace weatherstripping as needed.
  • Check attic insulation and add more if necessary to improve energy efficiency.
  • Trim trees and shrubs away from the house to prevent damage from winter storms.
  • Inspect and clean dryer vents to prevent fire hazards.

March:

  • Check exterior paint and siding for any signs of damage or wear; schedule any necessary repairs or touch-ups.
  • Service your air conditioning system; clean or replace filters as necessary.
  • Test and reset ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) outlets.
